Pedophiles and the Left

After my introductory post, a commenter asked me to review Kevin McCullough's article "Why Liberals love Pedophiles."  While I generally agree with what Kevin has written, perhaps a few further words are in order, since the problem is growing more urgent.

There are three core beliefs in the Extreme Liberal/Leftist Philosophy:  1) one is not permitted to judge the values/actions of others as to their rightness or wrongness; 2) everyone who ever commits a bad act was previously himself/herself a "victim" (of something or someone); and 3) no one is ultimately responsible for his/her actions; there is always some person or entity "out there" that is truly responsible.  (NOTE:  I exaggerate only slightly for emphasis.)  These core beliefs are responsible for those on the political left feeling we have to "understand" what Islamofascists want, so that we can give it to them and get them to stop killing us.  It is the same mentality that says that all cultures are equally valuable, so that we can not cherish our own, while recognizing that--though flawed--we are light years ahead of cultures that are still mired in the early Middle Ages.

These basic beliefs inform the attitudes of the Extreme Left toward pedophiles:  They have the right to their own sexual expression; their deviant behavior is the result of their own abuse; and they can't control their own behavior.  Many "old time" Liberals do not believe these myths, but those on the extreme, who have stolen the leadership of Liberal Politics, do.  And the Mainstream Media reinforce these attitudes.  (It's what I call the "Oprah-ization"  of society--all feelings, no thought.)  The result of incorporating these attitudes in one's world-view of pedophiles is to be more concerned with their needs than those of the countless victims of their deviancy.

At this point, I need to make an academic distinction.  "Child molesters" and "pedophiles" are not the same thing.  Anyone who sexually abuses a child is a molester.  A pedophile is only a person whose sexual interest is solely or primarily in pre-pubescent children.  Molesters generally go after children because they can't get the adults they prefer.  Pedophiles only want little children.  Pedophiles (I believe as a matter of study and experience) are born that way.  They want children in the way some find blondes most appealing and others get pleasure from inflicting pain (i.e., sadists).  This is their basic sexual interest.  They can not be changed or cured; they can only be controlled and denied access to the objects of their sexual desire.

So how does this relate to the Leftist Philosophy?  Perhaps this is an explanation.  I would argue that one can reasonably view the sexual preying on children by adults who desire nothing else as "evil."  It is not natural.  One of my schoolmates from University--Andrew Vachss--has written extensively on this subject.  His view, which I support, is that no other species besides humans tolerates members that prey on the young.  They are universally executed or banished.  But, the Hard Left hates strong punishment, so somehow they have to excuse/mitigate/explain away the evil that confronts them.  It can't be done, so they embrace it, "normalize" it.  A good example of this is the spectacle of organizations like the ACLU defending the "right" of NAMBLA members to have "consensual" sex with little boys.

In the end, a society must decide if it will enforce what is a minimal concensus on what is tolerable and what  must be  rooted out as unacceptable.   Their philosophical baggage makes it nearly impossible for the Extreme Left to join in that consensus.  They can't, in the final analysis, chose Good over Evil because they can not tell one from the other.

"Let me introduce myself . . ."

With great trepidation, I have decided to become part of the 21st century and attempt to dialog with people outside my immediate sphere of friends and family.  I look forward to spirited discussion/debate with anyone who reads my words and wishes to respond.

By way of introduction, let me make the following revelations about myself:  I was born into a Jewish socialist family 63 years ago.  My religious  upbringing was minimal, but over the years I have read both Testaments of the Bible, as well as major writings of many of the non-Judeo-Christian religions.  My act of faith is that I do not believe in God, although my wife and friends (including a Jesuit Brother) claim that I do.  My political orientation is Conservative; that is, I believe in the "original meaning" of the U.S. Constitution and want our Government and society to be run on that basis.

I hold a Master's Degree in clinical psychology.  I taught at the University level for several years.  I also worked as a therapist at the Cleveland, Ohio Free Clinic for 7-8 years on a volunteer basis.  In 1970, I left academia to work in law enforcement, first on the municipal level, and then in 1972 for the U.S. Government.  I spent over 20 years enforcing Federal Civil Rights Laws.  When I retired, I returned to working as a therapist.  I have done this in a facility for mentally ill and mentally retarded sex offenders for 14 years.

In this Blog, I hope to make some worthwhile contributions to the analysis and discussion of some of the important issues of our times.   Thanks, in advance, for your interest.
